If you are tired of over-manipulated everyday California Chardonnay, and you are certain that any White Burgundy will be priced above your value threshold, here is a low-cost option from Famille Pacquet to consider. 

Famille Pacquet has bottlings of Chardonnay from all parts of the Macon.  From Pouilly Fuisse at the higher end of their production, to a Macon Village at the other end of the spectrum, they cover it all. This Bourgogne Chardonnay (As it is labeled) is an assemblage of "leftover" wine from the numerous vineyard sites where they source fruit.  The wine has a pretty pale gold hue with a delicate nose of acacia honey, marzipan, and spring flowers.  While the winemaker's notes say "rich and round on the palate", I would describe the wine as being on the lighter side, with the tell-tale soft edges from barrel refinement.  There is the slightest hint of hazelnut and just a whisper of vanilla on the finish.  

This is a straightforward, satisfying wine that you can pair with lighter fare, or just have a glass with a sliver of creamy Brie cheese.
